Description

The role of the User Interface Developer is to produce and develop high quality, usable and accessible user interfaces for web applications using current web standard technologies such as: (X)HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

The role requires the User Interface Developer to be highly knowledgeable of current web standards and trends.

The methods employed to develop the interface will include:

  • The production of design templates for web pages;
  • The development of semantic presentation mark-up languages such as (X)HTML;
  • The development of Cascading Style Sheets;
  • The development of unobtrusive client side JavaScript;
  • The preparation of graphics for Internet use from Adobe Photoshop.

Skills

  • Developing (X)HTML and CSS that is compliant with relevant standards;
  • Developing and de-bugging JavaScript functionality (including AJAX) for dynamic presentation components;
  • Developing and de-bugging ActionScript for Adobe Flash;
  • Having a complete understanding of the Web Accessibility Initiatives guidelines and checkpoints for developing accessible web content;
  • Knowing browser agent capabilities across a range of operating systems and devices;
  • Knowing and developing in at least one relevant JavaScript library;
  • Designing web page templates in Adobe Photoshop and/or Fireworks;
  • Understanding the principles of Adobe Flash development;
  • Understanding the principles of server-side development in ASP and .NET;
  • Understanding development process with regard to version control;
  • Testing (X)HTML, CSS and JavaScript across a range of browsers and devices including assistive technologies;
  • Estimating the scale and complexity of interface development tasks and providing accurate estimates for the completion of tasks.

Experience

A commercial agency background of at least 3 years in User Interface Development is required, as well as an awareness of design production.
