As the summer months draw to an end, the days will get shorter and the nights colder. Luckily, we still have a few more weeks before the cold will really set in. Before we all have to buckle down for the winter like a bunch of grizzly bears, here are three things you should do with your families and friends before you don’t have the chance any longer.

1. Get Outta Town for a Bit

Try to find time in everybody’s schedules that you can find time to get out of town and enjoy some fresh nature air. Grab the pets, stop by Petsmart for any last minute supplies and take a hike! You can try to plan it for an entire weekend or just a day, the important thing is to get your fill of nature before it’s too late. Remember to plan everything and know where you will be going. If you are venturing somewhere unknown, tell at least one group of close friends about your plans.. In case of an emergency it’s better to be safe than sorry.

2. Picnic the Neighborhood

If you can’t find the time to get away from home for a little, try to make the grand adventure out of many smaller adventures. Having day picnics at the different parks around your area is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and weather, but isn’t incredibly inconvenient to most schedules. Get some other families involved with planned events, games, and themes. If the picnics are big enough, you could turn it into a potluck style gathering where each family brings one item and shares with the rest. This will make everything MUCH easier on each family.

3. Throw an End of Summer BBQ

There is no better event than an good old fashioned, end of summer BBQ. Get your best and closest friends together, fire up the grill, have some refreshments and send the summer of with the bang that it deserves. Depending where you live, it may be a long time until you have grilling weather again so don’t drop the ball. Get the slip n slide, bocce balls, and lawn darts out because a BBQ is the best way to say “see you soon summer!”
